Lack of iGPU means lack of Intel QuickSync, but if you aren't doing a lot of video encoding, I suppose it doesn't matter. NVIDIA and AMD GPUs have equivalent technologies too, assuming your video encoding software supports any.

As far as I know, running 4 DIMMs just usually means you need to reduce the frequency and/or loosen the timings. Sometimes adding extra voltage on the CPU can help too.

Do you have a Canada Computers you can get to? Perhaps in-store they might let you swap the 32GB for 64GB? The same T-FORCE Vulcan 64GB set is $250 (exactly the same price as 2x2x16GB), so maybe they can just tack the $125 difference onto the combo price?

Thanks for the clarifications. I'm still looking at combo deals, but there's a CanComputers in Halifax, so might head out and see if they have any flexibility.

Refresh your knowledge about the AM5 chipsets here:

B650 AM5 board review with link to the crappy ones.

If you want to go all out and get a X670E board:

hmm - might have to rethink the mobo. I need ATX with 6 sata ports, and 3+ PCIe slots, 2+ M2 slots

Damn - was suffering from analysis paralysis. Finally bit the bullet and made a mistake on the board. Need to exchange for an ATX with one more PCIe slot instead of the third M2. Also (and I know this is lazy), what board would let me use 3 PCIe cards + 2 nvme + all six sata ports? Is there an AM5 board out there for under $250? Don't need wifi

edit - cancelled the MSI MAG, looking at something with the same specs as this : ASUS Prime X670-P

Need some input on this....I've decided on a low power AM4. Will be using my 1070 and Seasonic PSU. I want 8 cores, 6 sata ports and bays, plus an igu. There must be a cheaper way (?) Open to AM5/Intel. Finding a case with 6 3.5" bays is an issue - can't find anything used. Help.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor ($219.00 @ Amazon Canada)
Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard ($149.99 @ Amazon Canada)
Memory: TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory ($79.99 @ Canada Computers)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case ($149.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Total: $598.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

1. Why does it have to have 8 cores? Ryzen 7600 is faster than the 5700G.

2. Nothing wrong with enthoo pro, but it is a relatively old case design now. There probably aren’t a lot of options that meet your drive wants. Why do you need 6 drives?

3. What do you need the integrated graphics for when you are using the 1070?

1) I do some batch image and audio processing + occasional video transcoding. I suppose it doesn't have to be 8 core, but I want a VERY significant step up from my 3700k.

2) Could consolidate or connect 2 via USB hub I guess.

3) I'm running 4+ monitors, but I suppose I could throw some windows on a monitor connected to an older gpu.

Will redo with 7600, 4 sata drives.
