Default Budget Video Card?

So my stepson's video card gave up the ghost today. It was an ancient AMD HD7950. It owed us nothing. Was bought new by my brother many years ago to be run in a mining rig, then gifted to my stepson a few years ago after the first crypto-currency crash.

I'm searching for a replacement for him. Running at 1080P. Rest of the computer is an AMD FX8350 with 8GB of RAM, so nothing too fancy.

IT's been a few years since I"ve followed computer hardware. Is an AMD RX570 a good replacement?

I don't mind something used, either. Trying to keep it under $200.

RX570 is a very good card for 1080p, but the CPU will be a bottleneck, so it's a bit of overkill.

I would look for a used GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti...just make sure that if you go with a 1050 Ti you know if it needs the extra GPU power pin; some do some don't.

Isn't someone selling a lightly mined RX580 4GB in BST? I say you should go with that instead of buying a GTX1660.

I agree except that used 1050/1050Ti are generally priced higher than they should be IMO.

With that build I agree that a 570 4gb is going to be nearly impossible to beat bang for buck...new or used is your call.

Yeah, it's an RX580 that was used for mining. $150, I believe. Seems like a pretty good deal, right?

Any detriment that it was used for mining for 2-3 months?

Here is a new one at MemEx for $159.99 + tax.

For that price, we'll probably just go new. They still have 7 in stock here in Winnipeg.

There has been some on sale for $139 recently as well...that said I know you are likely on a short fuse purchase.

So, an RX580 used in a mining rig for $150+$20 shipping = $170. Possibly no warranty (lack of a store receipt, probably)

Or

A brand new RX570 for $159.99 + tax = $180.

Which to go for?!? We could have the RX570 as quickly as tonight, although waiting a few days for a card to arrive in the mail isn't a dealbreaker either.

I think I'm leaning towards the RX570, just because it is a new card, and an RX580 might be a little overkill as a companion for the FX8350 CPU.
