indeed, and your CPU will be the bottleneck of the 570...

you might want to consider upgrading the platform to a cheap mobo with a Ryzen 2400G w/Vega iGPU, which can do 108p gaming. you'd need new mobo, CPU and RAM which would be qat more than the 570, but what he'd have would be so much faster.

Not really, but I am sure there would be a few games that would benefit from the extra vram. It is a promo code, not a mail in rebate, so your cost would be identical as the 4gb (free shipping).

So, we're talking about a $600+ upgrade vs a simple <$200 video card...

well, I guess there are two ways to look at it.

1) buy a cheap GPU, even if seriously bottle necked by the CPU as it's seriously weaksauce

or

2) upgrade the platform to something more current and capable

what you do is up to you, I was only presenting options, considering the age of the platform your son is using. the bonus to buying the RX570 now is that you'll have a much GPU in a year when it comes time to upgrade his platform. :)

We went ahead and bought the RX570 from Memory Express. Bonus is I could pick it up last night and have it installed. His computer was down for not much more than 24 hours.

Yes, his platform is old, but really, advances in CPU haven't been that great lately. His 8350 still runs everything he wants it to. Sure, it may run a little hot at times, but it gets the job done just fine. Anyways, until he gets a job, he certainly doesn't have the budget to cover a full system upgrade. And he's almost 18 now, so I'm done paying for computer upgrades for him.

Same with the 3770K and GTX960 in my rig. It is running everything I need to, I get 50-60fps at 1080P in the games that I play, therefore I don't feel the need to spend money on it.

This bottleneck BS revolves around individual games and varies from X to Y however if you've got a weak sauced GTX1050 (much the same as HD7950) GPU then you can't expect miracles.

Two recent ^ games that just don't care if you're using amd FX.

IMHO, system ram is being overlooked these days FC5/FCND easily chews up 10+GB if you play longer than 10 minutes, RoTR is another 10+GB ram.

I don't want to debate I just get tired of seeing blanket BS.

I've not gamed for years, but my understanding is that when you're gaming @ 1080p resolutions, you often become CPU bound.

granted, the games being played will affect the performance, newer/modern titles not being so friendly to the FX CPU's. keep in mind to, the FX CPU's were gutless...yeah, the best AMD had to offer, but they still were weak sauce.

mmm, no! You are bound by the cpu at lower resolutions, 1080p makes the gpu work harder than the cpu.
