Just wanted to complete this thread. Bios is fine, just altered boot order for some reason.

So it was a dead CPU? What was the issue?

So in orig post I changed the cpu fan setting from auto to PWM. Most of what I'd read of PWM indicated it could do no harm. Unfortunately that change fried the cpu. Never ever seen a cpu hosed, although I've never OC'd. Luckily system was a freebie. I hope to sell the mobo, think it's a GA-790XTA-UD4.
