Default nuvoton nct6779d temperature reading

What is this? Why is it showing 102 degrees celcius on hardware monitor?

My System Specs

Looks like it's the chipset including monitoring functions.... Nuvoton Technology Corp. ???? - LPC Super I/O for Desktop & Server what it's reporting on could probably be anything. Does the temp fluctuate under different loads or is it stable?

Could be a defective/misplaced/cheap thermistor? If you haven't already I'd try firing off an email to Asus support about the temperature readings.
