Default Acer 5742G

Hey guys,

My laptop is acting kinda weird for a long time now and I don't know what's going on.
So basicly every 10s it just freezes. No matter what I'm playing or doing it just freezes. When I'm watching a movie/video the image freezes but the audio keeps going and then the video starts going faster until it "catches" the sound.

My Acer is an Aspire 5742G (i5-460m, gt 420m, 4gb ddr3). I don't want to spend any money on it because I'm gonna buy another laptop ASAP. I just want some program or something to try to fix this.

Thanks.

Is there any issues with temps? Is your CPU use maxed out while it's happening?

Actually I noticed after installing an ssd in my acer I had a similar issue that was solved by turning off a power saving feature. It was in power options>advanced settings>PCI express>link state power management....that said I only had the issue after putting an ssd in.

Hardwaremonitor for temps and just open up windows task manger then the performance tab to see CPU utilization.

HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

RealTemp will be your best bet for temps and loads.

I've tried with OCCT and the max temp it recorded while just browsing was 64C

But then I opened the task manager and guess what, 98% of the RAM was being used (3900MB of 4000MB (WTF). I only had Chrome, TS and OCCT running.

And yeah when it freezes the cpu goes to 100% load.

Still want me to try real temp and hardwaremonitor?

Don't bother with HWMonitor. Just use RealTemp.

Windows 7 caches your ram and you will find it shows it uses more than necessary. Also download Process Explorer (Process Explorer) and watch it as it will show you if any processes are using excessive amounts of CPU without you knowing.

So this is what i have from real temp and process explorer

Right now @21min it's sitting @50C and 21.1% load.

The thing is that the RAM keeps going crazy on this laptop. On my desktop I have 4gb ddr2 and it never passes the 3GB mark...

My graphics card's driver keeps crashing tho (laptop). Computer freezes, then black screen, then everything is ok with a note saying that NVIDIA driver bla bla stopped working but "it's ok now".

Should I try to update my bios drivers?

Yeah realtemp works as well...either will get you temp. As mentioned use process explorer, or it may even be obvious enough to see in windows task manager what is hogging your cpu and ram.

EDIT: I see you posted while I was writting this. I will look at it and try and write something back in a bit.
