so reading more, it seems they are going to keep Edge, but port it over to Chromium, or some such.

I guess the downfall is we lose Edge as the 3rd rendering choice that's readily available on Windows, but I don't think that's really a big deal. I know I use Edge when Chrome doesn't do something "right", but I could just as easily go back to having Firefox installed like I used to before Win10.

IE11 should be taken out back though, that needs to go
Too many companies refuse to migrate out of IE11 still though. It's infuriating. When I subcontract to TransCanada I still have to use IE for all of my shared storage, vault uploads, etc. It's better than using a shitty citrix server, but not by much.

there is one thing ie and edge do that ther other webbroswers give me huge problems ( and dont get me wrong I really dislike both edge and e) I can actually login to my banking page ther other browsers work off and on .
I do know that Chrome is opensource but also it is to me anyway Google Chrome webbrowser based which also to me the Android os came from which is why I dont like the idea it is bad enough with the telemitry in win 10 never mind Googles huge tracking personal info use in its search engine and then selling that info to companys. sorry went off topic

This appears to be confirmed now, Microsoft is moving Edge to Chromium.

This is an interesting related read from the Mozilla blog:

I'm assuming it'll work the same as a linux distro like redhat.... microsoft will use the bones but put their own branding on it.

Hasn't Firefox done some questionable things lately too?

Actually with Edge moving to Chromium, it could mean MS bringing it to Linux and macOS as well. Similar to their efforts with PowerShell Core, to make it a cross-platform scripting language.
