Default Ubiquiti Moving Into Consumer Space

https://www.anandtech.com/show/13628...gamers-edition

I sorta/kinda have a memory niggling at me about AmpliFi, but can't seem to recall exactly what it was.

anyhow, they're introducing a gamer focused mesh wifi system with QoS for gaming and gaming cloud services.

here is the AmpliFi website:

It is $500CAD+ so I wouldn't call it consumer space.

all mesh networking is expensive, no matter who you look at. but I agree in essence...this is more pro-sumer HW.

I see we have most of the items listed, just no stock at this time.

I would say this is the "consumer" one: https://www.amplifi.com/instant/

The Amplifi HD and Gaming editions are more towards the pro-sumer end of things.

No dedicated side-band freq for mesh to mesh communications (ie uses ac or n channels to repeat the packets back to the router)? Check
GAMER!!! branding? check
Yup it is consumer mesh. In other words... meh, with a side order of meh, covered in some meh, and garnished with you guessed it! More meh.

This is NOT real mesh networking. Its nothing more than a fancy router with a couple upgraded repeaters/range extenders with a bit of customization at the firmware and software levels.
Most peeps will be better served with a AC Pro or AC Long with a dedicated cable back to the router. This is especially true if you are serious about gaming and want to use wifi.
