Usenet is not file sharing. People post binaries to different newsgroups on the 'usenet' and servers all over the world host them. You do not upload or share. I subscribe to giganews and can download an 8gb file in 15 minutes. SSL encryption too, no one can see what you are doing. They post parity files too so you can repair or even fix incomplete posts.

Exactly! God bless the inventor of quickpar and par files! The thing I hated the most about torrents is that most of the time you upload twice the size of the file your downloading. So basically it's like downloading the file twice. You can chew through your bandwidth easily with torrents.

Once I started using usenet, I never turned back. The funny thing is that the manager of a particular ISP call centre I used to work for told me about usenet.

i've yet to receive a cease and desist email from torrenting :)
