Agreed, I also used KODI with SQL as backend for a few years which did the job, but Emby so much easier.

I used the streaming function once or twice from my phone, then casting it to a ChromeCast and it actually worked very well.

Another for Emby

Yes. I assume you'll be using LibreElec on the Pi? It will be able to handle native playback for mostly everything. So Emby won't need to transcode.

I use Media Companion.

I tried them all and keep going back to MC although there are some things I like about Emby and keep watching it. Tried Media Elk as well but had too many issues with it.

I ditched Emby last night. They went closed source and I found that the new Kodi plugin was terrible. It is much harder to setup and I had serious sync issues. I am now using Plex as the backend.

I've always found the Plex interface to be terrible. So I am still using Kodi w/ this fantastic addon, PlexKodiConnect. It is a fork of the old Kodi addon for Emby, so a lot of the settings are exactly the same. You can also force native playback so transcoding is never done. Direct Paths Explained.

There is a potential opensource Emby replacement in the works, check it out here.
