Need help with core 21
Just rebuilt one of my folding machines due to MB failure.
I downloaded new f@H client with core 21
My question is what is best Nvidia driver to fold with on this core?
I have GTX 780 and GTX 780ti
at the moment only getting 100K PPD when it used to get 400K PPD
Is there a certain flag to also use now?
Also have another PC having a gtx770 and gtx660ti in it what is latest best driver for it with core 21?

thanks in advance

Core 21 is the devil. They don't really produce more PPD than any other WU from my experience. They make the system completely unusable. I noticed no decrease in PPD when I removed the -beta flag and I never get core 21 anymore.

Lowfat, thanks for the reply. But sadly I am still confused.
I run windows 7, and in the past this PC was crunching 400K PPD, today 50K PPD
I have 2 cards GTX780 GTX780ti.
In the past 2 or more years this machine was never really touched, other than
moving the cards around or upgrading them. It just folded.
Now I have had to rebuild parts of it and do a clean install.
I downloaded the F@H most recent exe and set it up.
I installed various drivers and played with the client-type flags but still it's a dog folding.
I guess my question is what is the best driver for these cards?
What is the flag set up I should be using.
Can/should I try to install an older core, can you do that?
At my present rate, I heat up the room 24/7 but feel I am not accomplishing much for folding and may
as well shut the system down

edit: what is your setup for the flags "advanced" mine installed with

"paused true" (should I just leave this as it came?)

any recommendations.....sighs

I don't use any flags anymore. It never really helped w/ PPD lately.

Thanks again Lowfat, guess your one of the last folders around.
I fired up the system this morning. I actually did as you mentioned before you wrote that reply.
I removed all flags from the expert config, even the pause ones that came with the install.
Not sure what GPU's you run but I run NVidia's. If you are also folding on same, what driver are you using these days. Today I am trying the 355.60 driver (legacy one)
Also if anyone else is out there, please feel free to chime in.

thanks all!

I had been running 359.00 drivers for a while but reverted to the 355.60 when I realized that ppd dropped and the machine was unstable and almost unusable. I'm running Maxwells - 2 GTX970's and a GTX980. I'm using the beta flag and have had mostly Core 21 so it might be time lose the beta flag.

I've also had Windows 10 warnings that my display driver has stopped working semi-regularly as try to use the machine.

So far after 3 days most PPD is 80,000 running cpu and 2 gpus.
gtx780 gtx780ti and 10 cores of my 3930.
Right now 2 gpu wu say core 18
Not sure whats going on but if this keeps up I am shutting this down
10 hours to crunch a wu unreal!!! TPF is 8 mins???
And the heat is unreal

Not sure how much it will help your gpu ppd but I'd lose the cpu folding or at least ensure that each gpu has a cpu thread to work with. Stanford has focused on gpu cores lately and as a result cpu folding has become quite inefficient ppd/watt-wise.

LoTech December 5, 2015 11:07 PM

Thanks for the update. I have always left a cpu core free per gpu in use.
But seeing how low the PPD is at the moment I may just shut the cores down.
I will continue to fold for a few days and see if it's just the WU I have been receiving.
I sure didn't find a lot of info out on the net about recent low PPD WU or core 21.
In fact a lot of the info I did find was fairly old. I know that in the past I did receive some
bad WU's that caused big drops in PPD. This may be the case now as well.

Sorry I was away for the weekend.

Like Lowfat said, Core21 are really evil.

My folding rigs with 780's in it are running 344.65 and the other 347.25 on the Nvidia drivers.

Also, I have remove the beta (or advanced) flags on my FAH client for the GPU slots since the Core21 appeared.

For now, I only have Core18 in the work for around 200K PPD per GPU.
