My last -bigadv was a 2684, but right now my CPU is getting regular SMP units.

There's an ongoing shortage of -bigadv units. This has been the case for a while now.

Looks like I spoke too soon. My 3rd machine, an X4 965 is now being hammered by a P6702 at 3139.6 PPD, ETA 17 hours . I normally get max 7K ppd on that thing. HFM used to give a total PPD of ~70K but now with the P2684's, no adv gpu3 units and the P6702, I'm totalling 40K, Sheez

Not w/ Fermi. Like I said above my PPD fluctuates 15,000 depends on what WUs I get.

Well from what I've seen it looks like this:

i7 920 stock smp2 = ~10k PPD
i7 920 4.0Ghz smp2 = ~14K PPD
i7 920 4.0Ghz bigadv = ~25K PPD

gtx 460 stock adv = ~13.5K PPD
gtx 460 stock normal = ~10K PPD

1. i7 920 at 4.0Ghz SMP2 WU ~= gtx 460 adv WU.
2. i7 920 at 2.67Ghz SMP2 WU ~= gtx 460 normal WU.

@i7 920 4.0Ghz = ~160 watts (ballpark here)
@gtx 460 stock normal ~= 160 watts (another ballpark)

For normal WU (stock i7/stock 460)
@ 2x gtx 460 = 20KPPD = 62.5 points / watt
@ 1x i7 920 2.67Ghz = 10KPPD = 62.5 points / watt

For normal WU (oc i7/stock 460):
@ 2x gtx 460 = 20KPPD = 62.5 points / watt
@ 1x i7 920 4Ghz = 14KPPD = 87.5 points / watt

For adv/bigadv WU (oc i7/stock 460)
@ 2x gtx 460 = 27KPPD = 84.375 / watt
@ 1x i7 920 4Ghz = 25KPPD = 156.25 points / watt

Take these figures with a grain of salt though as I haven't done a REAL study on it. Just throwing around figures that I see from time to time. Without bigadvs though, 2x gtx 460s will beat an i7 920 at 4Ghz but with 70% efficiency (i7 920 4.0Ghz baseline).

those are some nice numbers, dankishen.

so ppd/watt bigadv is still the way to go due to fermi's failures. hmmm...cant wait for the next refresh/shrinkage

one thing that keeps popping up, is the $ spent/ppd

gpu is still on top, im thinking 450/460.

sure a 920 is cheaper tnan 2 460's, but you need an 'expensive' mobo etc to go with it....

anyone going to try one of those old 4 pci-e mobos with 4 450's or such? :)

I'm actually trying to go for 4x460 at the moment. Only thing that is preventing me is that my PSU will burn to ashes if I try to. That and I have to squeeze in the lowest gpu card by removing the PSU top and the 460 shroud + need new MB as well. Hopefully I can find a PSU which isn't as thick as the one I have now. Best method that seems to work for me is to stagger the EE with the normal 460, so it's EE, normal, EE, normal. I've tried different arrangements but the damn EE will burn up if i don't stagger it with the normal 460. Cramping everything in a CM 690 doesn't help too. My last resort is to move everything to my unfinished 800D water rig, but it's got a big hole on top for a 480 rad so I really don't wanna do that

i believe you will need some 150 watts if properly cloked per 460, maybe 100 folding wise of course if undervolted.

times 4, there are seasonics who arent mall sized and offer that much on the 12v.

also, you got to add some extra fans inside the case. get creative :)

if i were to build a f@h rig id go for 450's. now.

again, curious about the next [arts...probably in 3-6 months.
