Default 1440p 144hz IPS Monitor Help!

I am looking for a 1440p 144hz IPS monitor but I don't know which one to get. Either should I get the Asus pg279q now or wait till the price drop? I live in UK so it cost 700. What do you guys think?

It is brand spanking new. People just started getting them like a week ago. You won't see a price drop for a very long time. There are ZERO others worth buying IMO.

Well is it worth getting the ASUS ROG PG278Q TN than the pg279q ips? Or what?

I've had the PG278Q for close to a year and like it a lot. Best display I've owned personally, and I've owned quite a few. It is a 10-bit panel so colours are better than any other TN out there. It also doesn't suffer from IPS glow unlike the new panel. My panel is pretty much flawless and AFAIK most of the newer 278Qs have relatively good quality control. If gaming is your primary usage I personally think it is a great choice. I've put probably a thousand hours of gaming on mine this year and never once have I said "I wish this had better colours" .

The reviews are just coming down for the PG279Q. Seems positive so far but QC is yet again going to be a problem. People are reporting IPS bleed , stuck/dead pixels while others are getting perfect monitors. Also 165hz is fine and all but unless you have a GTX 980 (ti) Titan or the Higher end AMD card you can forget about ever hitting that . I've been considering this monitor ever since it was unveiled at CES but with a GTX 780 I don't think I could even touch anything pass 100 hz.

You need a Maxwell Gen 2 card (960 and above, so possibly not 950) to achieve 165hz on the monitor. It's a limitation to how the monitor is overclocked to achieve 165hz.

That being said, I sincerely doubt the difference between 144hz and 165hz is perceivable - it's just not a big enough jump. It's mostly a marketing stunt to trumpet over the Acer models - XB270HU and upcoming "refresh" XB271HU

Yea but is a 960 going to run GTA V or BF4 at ultra or even high settings with decent FPS on a 2560X1440 monitor ?

My point was that you can not achieve 165hz on the monitor unless you have the appropriate Maxwell cards. Even if you were running Tri-SLI with 780s you would never get 165hz on this monitor. As soon as you enable it, the monitor would display 120hz.
