Default Intel c204 chipset

Hey guys.. looking for some input on this.

Have a new project starting and the Supermicro | Products | SuperServers | 1U | 5017C-TF we have been provided with have i5 2500's in them.. according to supermicro they should only take E3's and i3's.. according to Intel they should only take E3's and not the desktop chips.

Anyone got any info as to ANY issue we could face as we really don't need to be chasing phantom problems caused by unsupported hardware. Been looking around for near an hr now and can't find much.

Interesting. Could a BIOS micro-code issue, most probably that ECC may not work. But I'm really surprised by the i3 and NOT i5 NOR i7 comment on the SM board page.... was is that different from them chips?

* Per Intel's spec, for platforms using C202/C204 PCH:
1) Intel i5/i7 CPUs are not supported
Supermicro | Products | Motherboards | Xeon® Boards | X9SCM-F

Found this thread on STH: Intel C202, C204, C206 Xeon E3 Bromolow Motherboards Thread. If you dig through, you may find an answer.
