It's easy enough to upgrade afterwards if you find you don't like the on-board sound.

Misoprostol June 21, 2007 05:04 PM

add-in sound card is the way to go. Period. On-board is "fine", but you'll never listen to it again once you've had a sound card.

Long John Silver June 21, 2007 05:16 PM

hmm alright, i think i might try onboard sound, cuz i dont need amazing sound, and if i dont like it ill buy a soundcard but, even if i get a soundcard, it'll be a cheap thing so...yea

Long John Silver June 22, 2007 12:59 PM

Alright you said get a good power supply, so i came up with this, not sure if its would do the trick, seems kind of cheap but....yea.

Ultra / X-Finity / 600-Watt / ATX / Dual 80mm Fan / SATA-Ready / SLI Ready / Blue / Power Supply
Ultra X-Finity 600-Watt ATX Dual 80mm Fan SATA-Ready SLI Ready Blue Power Supply ULT31849 in Canada at TigerDirect.ca

or

OCZ / GameXStream / 700-Watt / ATX / 120mm Fan / SATA Ready / SLI Ready / EPS / Active PFC / Power Supply
OCZ GameXStream 700-Watt ATX 120mm Fan SATA Ready SLI Ready EPS Active PFC Power Supply OCZ700GXSSLI in Canada at TigerDirect.ca

sswilson June 22, 2007 01:13 PM

If I had to chose between those two I'd pick the OCZ.

Ultra has come a long way recently, but many of their lower end PSUs left a lot to be desired.

That said... the price of the OCZ you linked to is crazy!!!!!!

DirectCanada has it on for $113.95.

For the price you were willing to pay at tigerdirect you could get a PCP&P 610W single rail with 49A on the 12V!!!!

hmm, i think i linked the wrong thing, either that or the price was lower the other day....anyways yea thts much cheaper at direct.

600 Watt Plus Power Supply, Uninterruptible Power Supplies at TigerDirect.ca

theres all of the 600w that they carry, and i dont relle know much about psu's besides they give stuff power.....so yea i could use some major help and advice there.

like this
Ultra / X-Finity 2G / 600-Watt / ATX / 120mm Fan / SATA-Ready / SLI-Ready / Titanium / Power Supply
Ultra X-Finity 2G 600-Watt ATX 120mm Fan SATA-Ready SLI-Ready Titanium Power Supply ULT33120 in Canada at TigerDirect.ca

Here are couple of reviews for 600+ Watt PSU's from SKYMTL, I take his word as gold when it comes to PSUs. He knows his stuff. If you have any questions he's the one to ask.

I know it's going to sound like I'm trying to sell you on DC, but really.... the prices TD has on non-craptacular PSUs is crazy!!!!! I just went through the list and I couldn't find anything in the $100 - $200 range under $150 that I'd recommend. (Hopefully others will pipe in here if they see something I didn't).

If you're in the TO area and are trying to avoid shipping costs (understandable for a PSU.... :) ) my suggestion would be to check out some of the mom&pop local dealers to see what they've got for prices.

Long John Silver June 23, 2007 06:37 PM

im not buying from tiger direct, im just using those as examples, iunno i guess im used to looking on their site. I'm looking at all the canadian websites i can find for prices, so just throw anything at me within a reasonable price, ill try and find a good price for it.
and thanx for all the help so far guys

Mushkin XP-650 650W ATX 12V 24PIN ATX Power Supply W/ PFC 80MM Fan - DirectCanada

Damn fine price/performance ratio.

I especially like the fact that it acts like a single rail PSU (important for higher end vid cards).

If I were in the market for a new PSU I'd definately be looking at this one. The 600W OCZ GameXstream (what I'm running) is over there as well for slightly under $100, but it's got a rebate and I absolutely hate dealing with those if I don't have to.

Actualy.... hold on that while I verify it's the same PSU that SKYMTL reviewed........ (there are two different 650W models)
