AMD’s Phenom II X4 965 is still their crown jewel, however according to the OverclockersClub, the company is planning on releasing an updated version of the chip which features a TDP lowered from 140W to a more reasonable 125W.

The new chip will be the C3 version, model HDZ965FBK4DGM, as opposed to the old C2 model, HDZ965FBK4DGI. Otherwise the chip is identical, carrying the same 3.4GHz clock speed, 128 KB L1, 512 KB/core dedicated L2 cache and shared 6MB L3 cache.

The only difference is the drop in TDP from 140W to 125W, and given that the CPU is a black edition with unlocked multiplier, this should bode well for achieving higher overclocks.

Pricing is intended to be the same at $196USD
