WhatsApp is denying claims that it is in takeover discussions with Google.
DigitalTrends reported Friday that Google and Whatsapp were locked in negotiations, with WhatsApp playing hardball and asking for a price that was close to $1-billion. WhatApp’s chief of business development denied the claims today when speaking with AllThingsDigital.
In December, the company was the target of a similar rumour. At the time, reports were that Facebook was seeking to take over the firm and merge its service into Facebook Messenger. WhatsApp described this as “not factually accurate”.
The CEO of WhatsApp is scheduled to speak at an AllThingsDigital conference next week, and will likely address the topic of a potential takeover then.
