Well, are you? NVIDIA issued the call Friday morning, asking its follower’s: Are You Ready?
A post on the companies facebook page depicts the following picture along with a status update telling readers to “Check back here on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. PST for a major announcement!”
We are only left to guess at what this mysterious message may be, but the overwhelming speculation is the announcement of something Fermi (aka the GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470) related. Information from NVIDIA has stated they will be releasing production cards before Q1 fiscal 2011, which is actually sometime before April of 2010.
Question! What do you think about the secretive announcement? Will it be information regarding upcoming NVIDIA cards, or something better; real, full 3D holograms, a machine that can produce food from water vapour, NVIDIA’s idea at a cruel joke? Leave a comment!

i think the question should be are the drivers ha ha. glad to see this is not going to be another year of nvidia releasing the same cards with a different sticker

Come' on Fermi!
ST
February 19, 2010 11:04 AM
They better have a good strategy and a very good card because ATI is in full dominance no one can deny that
In my opinion nvidia's next move is critical kind like sink or swim
February 19, 2010 11:06 AM
Ahead of schedule launch to pre-empt ATI's 5870 6 and 5830 lanches?
-edit-
Uh, actually...
Prolly a release to say... "sorry, waitl till Q2" if rumors are correct.....
Fermi mass availability delayed to Q2 | IT SHOW 2010 | VR-Zone | Gadgets | PC Enthusiasts
Sounds a lot like a few thousand A3 GPU boards will be shipped to consumers as is (March),
while they re-spin again in hopes of fixing whatever is causing all the trouble.
Its just rumour, but Charlie may be right about "hope TSMC fabs perfect huge chip vs respin adding redudancy like double via to make chip even bigger".

Been ready since December...
February 19, 2010 11:11 AM
Didn't they do an Are You Ready mystery campaign in like 2002 as well?
Lol

Would it break NDA rules to ask for "speculation" as to what the power requirements could/would be for the new cards?

Nvidia tweeted that a few days ago....I think they are just teasing.

of course now they will anonce it Monday, since I spent $ 900 on 2 * 5870

no problem I still have an Rig ready for it ...

very simple it's somewhere betwen the price of a 9400 and a car
February 19, 2010 05:11 PM
His desire to do this wasn’t born out of pure lunacy, Carrell does have a goal in mind. Within the next 6 years he wants to have a first generation holodeck operational. A first generation holodeck would be composed of a 180 degree hemispherical display with both positionally and phase accurate sound. We’ll also need the pixel pushing power to make it all seem lifelike. That amounts to at least 100 million pixels (7 million pixels for what’s directly in front of you, and the rest for everything else in the scene), or almost 25 times the number of pixels on a single 30” display.

Unless they have some ground breaking stuff like a quad core graphics card, or these are very competetively priced (And I don't think they will be) I think Nvidia will have a hard time catching up to ATI. I mean use me as an example, I was an Nvidia fanboy, now I'm ATI!
February 19, 2010 07:00 PM
I would love it if they released their cards Monday but I think it might just be reviews up or a preview.
February 19, 2010 07:02 PM
the more I play with my 5870 the less I need a Fermi
February 19, 2010 09:05 PM
Nvidia is actually (surprisingly) not in much trouble at all. Fermi seems not to be impacting sales and good Quadro sales have kept them in the clear. They made ~150 million last quarter, a hell of a lot better than last yer same quarter (and they had G80 around then too).
February 19, 2010 09:29 PM
February 19, 2010 11:32 PM
If they do announce a new GPU , it needs to be AS ground breaking as the 8800 series were...... as far as I am concerned, everything afterwords was "same old" being repackaged.. in different configurations
For ATI to be "losing" ..well that can't be because of a poor quality product...... both the 4800 and 5800 series have taken the performance crown.....
The irony is that Nvidia has "stagnated" like AMD has over the last 3 years and yet AMD had the savy to take up ATI..and now look where it has gone..who would have thought that 3 years ago?
Cheers, Max

Two things will happen here. 1) Nivida will completely bomb this round; and firmly leave the lead to ATI. 2.) They will bring out a great card that will compete on an even platform with ATI.
I wanted to say: 2.) They will blow our minds; but i cant.
February 20, 2010 06:52 AM
i want them to kick some ass... ati is doing well.. i wanna see Nvidia do something good
February 20, 2010 07:09 AM
Guess we'll just have to wait and see now won't we....
February 20, 2010 07:46 AM
Competition is healthy, we need good products from Nvidea so consumers win.
February 20, 2010 08:57 AM
I thought TSMC fixed its problems with 40nm.

I saw on firingsquad they were saying that the cards would be released on March 27 and reviews coming online the 29th. Makes me wonder exactly what kind of launch it will be if reviews will only come out 2 days after launch. Maybe they have been able to produce so few that the reviewers have to share cards
February 20, 2010 09:24 AM
Fermi will beat the 5870. Without a doubt.
The reason that high end video card sales are slow is that we don't need them to play the games at max settings with high aa and anisio. Again, we can blame consoles and the ut3 engine.
February 20, 2010 09:42 AM
Nice competition ! I hope the 5 and future 6 series help AMD.
February 20, 2010 09:59 AM
nVidia has re-branded so many times, I doubt I'd be surprised whatever they do.
How about a 40nm 285/275 die shrink release; - the new 385/375? until fermi ??
Or wait, that's not a monitor that reticent blacked cloaked monk is holding; that's the new nVidiaPad.

DDR5 would be nice.
February 20, 2010 12:56 PM
It will be GDDR5. No doubt about it.
February 20, 2010 12:58 PM
If not, then I'll wait for any bugs or issues for folks to find, and to see if AMD can help bring down prices.
February 20, 2010 01:10 PM
20k ppd for a $ 1000 card
I can see performance for F@H not being up to par for these cards right away though. Cuda/drivers may have to be optimized, as well as the Stanford client and GPU cores.
In any case, 20K will be seen as a disappointment for the high-end Fermi.
February 20, 2010 11:23 PM
I hope it has got something to do with the GTX480's we have all be waiting to long for these cards haha, all those interested in Nvidia cards anyway.

SemiAccurate :: Nvidia's Fermi GTX480 is broken and unfixable
February 21, 2010 04:19 AM
So while we are busy hoping this will drop the price of ATI cards let me ask you something:
How come the latest ATI cards are so much more expensive than their hd48xx generation, even at launch, I mean transistors have shrunk so the dies aren't that different so why is the second best instead of 150 now 300? Is that just a competition abuse like AMD did in the past when their dual core athlons were like $500 until intel released a competitive chip and in a freaking week the AMD one had literally dropped to half the price and went even more downwards in price from that point?
February 21, 2010 04:30 AM
Basically the more complex they get the harder it gets, and the more the economy gets busted the more effort they do to win back (developing) cost maybe?
But anyway nvidia already leaked, I hear through the grapevine, that they will release a whole range, not just one for the enthusiast segment in one relative short timespan, so it seems they CAN scale it down for lower cost versions after all it seems, but we'll know how right or wrong charlie was in 6 months I guess.
February 21, 2010 07:19 AM
not sure I can handle a second mortgage right now...
February 21, 2010 08:39 AM
Well, if you look closer at the picture, it could be the new 120hz screen, Nvidia edition HAF, or reintroduction of G15 rev.1
February 21, 2010 09:55 AM
If they are not making many Fermis, would they not have more production room for the current 200 series? 200 series cards are getting hard to find, especially in the high end. Less Fermis would mean more high-end 200 series I would think.
Unless of course they are getting rid of the 200 series, to make room for a rebranded 200 series, 'reborn' as the 300 series.
February 21, 2010 10:01 AM
I start to be tire of all the speculations... Nvidia is better to come soon with something, or no one will believe them anymore.
February 21, 2010 11:28 AM

AMD/ATI is in an excellent position right now. They have nothing to prove and the onus is entirely on Nvidia to put ANYTHING on the table other than a rehash of last generation stuff.

I'm thinking that ATI is having some of the same issues, look at the availablility of the 5970. And the long waiting lists, if you want to go that route.
If tomorrow's "announcement" isn't what everyone is waiting for, there's gonna be a lot of irked individuals out there, myself included. They either need
to get some cards out, or scrap the whole idea and start fresh. We've been left hanging far too long, I'm not waiting too much longer. Unfortunately, it's
going to come down to a timing issue, too much time and the cash for gf100 will have to be spent on more sensible things, like bills and all that, and I'd
much rather waste it on toys.
February 21, 2010 01:39 PM
February 21, 2010 03:19 PM
Nvidia CANNOT scrap their new release, but they need to do some SERIOUS damage control IF there is a major problem.
February 21, 2010 03:39 PM
Any chance this could be a paper launch?
