Earlier this morning, two things happened: AMD officially launched their R9 295X2 and our servers took a dump. Do you believe in coincidence? Neither do we.
Hardware Canucks is currently undergoing a large-scale redevelopment of our front page and forums which has caused intermittent hiccups in accessibility as we test new features and whatnot. As a matter of precedent, we make it a point to focus our building efforts during the weekends to minimize impact during the higher traffic weekdays.
So what happened this morning? AMD happened.
With the R9 295X2′s launch onto our pages, there was a sudden, massive jump in traffic which put extreme load on our server. Normally that wouldn’t be an issue but what followed was a comedy of errors which started with the Supermicro server’s power supply and its backup biting the dust…..at the same time. This was easily taken care of but, as is normally the case with these things, the PSU decided to take along a friend: a primary hard drive.
Needless to say Hardware Canucks was offline for a while and as a result, one of this year’s most popular cards went without adequate coverage on our pages. Quite frankly, the whole episode is pretty damn embarrassing and we apologize.
Since it’s been one of those days and assigning blame is the only thing to do, our finger is pointing at the R9 295X2′s popularity. AMD, the bill’s in the mail.
In all seriousness though, go check out the R9 295X2 review. It really is an awesome card that deserves the attention.
