NVIDIA has set an official launch date for its next generation GTX 480 and GTX 470 Fermi graphics cards; March 26th, 2010!
As a bit of an update to an earlier story which reported NVIDIA asking its followers to wait until PAX 2010 to receive more details on the next gen hardware, it would appear that March 26, 2010 is not merely the date where NVIDIA will deliver more information on Fermi, but is in fact the official launch date of the card.
NVIDIA clarified this with another Facebook update where it apologized to its followers for the confusion which led many to believe that their big Monday morning announcement was little more than announcement about an announcement.
While the launch is likely to be more of a production sample and paper launch ordeal – with actual products hitting retailer shelves much later – we can expect to be seeing some hard and factual performance numbers at this time and it will spell the mark of the countdown for consumers to get their hands on the highly anticipated cards.

Too little too late, they toyed with our feelings long enough

Unless they release a really ass kicking solid gpu thats worth its premium. Other wise time to go back to the red side

Nice. Can't wait. Haven't bought anything new for my PC in months! Although of course need to wait for the benches.

Heh..somebody over at PR got the hint that folks are getting sick of this...
February 22, 2010 07:15 PM
And we can expect availability to be sorted out at year end?
February 22, 2010 07:26 PM
That actually changes things up, a bogus convention participation and release date are 2 different things.

If you want to apologize to me make the card affordable and not ridiculously priced!
February 22, 2010 10:20 PM
Man, how quick people are to judge.
They are apologizing because they didn't actually state that the card would be LAUNCHED on March 26th in their original release. It was a mistake on their part. They are NOT apologizing for the announcement, nor should they.
February 22, 2010 10:32 PM
Aw, that's alright nVidia. Just please make your cards budget conscious ;_; I want in on that sweetness
February 22, 2010 10:48 PM
I can't wait till the cards come out, blow away anything ATI has and all these babies run out and spend 600+ on a card.
February 22, 2010 10:54 PM
the end result isn't really any different.

Quick to judge ? what is it now 5 ? 6 ? months late and counting ? Sorry but until a person can see something tangible and marketable it is a failure.
I have a hard time believing that something so troublesome to bring to market will outperform expectations, but we'll see............................................... eventually.

If anything it would be wise to wait for the price war that is going to happen and not like you can't wait because we already can play every game.
February 23, 2010 05:46 AM
About bloody time. You gotta wonder how long it will be before there is a decent supply, though.

February 23, 2010 06:48 AM
Can't wait for decent supply... so I can buy a 5830 or 5850... I would not be surprised if there was nearly no 400 series card available before mid/late summer.

I went back to the red camp a long while ago. NVidia is just taking too damn long.

I hope availability will be better than ati at launch!
Any news about prices? I guess we will know by there...

Having no new product for christmas and windows 7 launch wasn't in the plan, seriously... dude ???
February 23, 2010 02:26 PM
Me personally I'm more then happy to wait. I doubt nvidia will pull what ati did with the 2000 series.
I don't get all the anger. Either way I have a better gpu or a I get to choose from competitively priced ones.
February 23, 2010 02:40 PM
February 23, 2010 04:24 PM
Maybe it was in the plan who knows but nvidia never said so. Also most analysts say that ATI rushed their product to the market. And it didn't matter that ATI was in before Christmas because no one could buy one at a local retail store or online so ATI could have released it now and it would have made no difference as far as sales go. Nvidia's biggest concern is if ATI releases a refresh of cards like a 5890 or something soon after their launch.
I am just happy when nvidia releases their cards ATI will drop their prices and I get better choices. My friend is building a new computer and if he can get a 5850 instead of a cheaper way less powerful card I would be happy so I am telling him to wait.

It reminds me of the Lost Puppy Syndrome, when my brother's dog run away, we spent 2 days looking for it, I was really mad at the dog, but when we finally found it, we were so overwhelmed with joy, there was no place for hate anymore and the dog was forgiven. Same with OCers, once 480 hits the shelves, they will be buying it like if nothing happened, because it's there :)
February 23, 2010 09:19 PM
So here is my question to those of you that are not "angry," If your no fanboi why were you waiting till now? And what makes one buy a nvidia card given price($)/performance is the same for both sides. E.G $1/2FPS

If your truly trying to have fun and kill time, wheres your dx11 card? I though it was about "fun" and not fanboi.
Don't judge everything by its cover! What do you have to lose besides time and money?
As for myself I am just a poor man trying to get his best bang/$ to satisfy my upgrade itch.
Judging from the ways you guys reply it seems like your the "true boys."

Well I actually ordered a 5970 back in november but NCIX said I wouldn't get it till the week before christmas so I just canceled it and am now waiting. I don't need DX11 right now as only a couple games utilize it but none of them fully use all the extra features. AVP is the closest with its tessellation but other than that nothing really.
If an ATI and Nvidia card performed the same and where the exact same price it would be an easy buy for me. I would choose Nvidia hands down. From my experience they have better drivers, you get physx, cuda, folding power, better warranty, better multi gpu support. Now with the option of 3 monitors without needing a display port is also a very nice feature. So these are some of the reasons I am waiting. If Nvidia fails to deliver I will be buying either 2 5870's or 1 5970 with a 5850 depending of price drops and how much money I have at the time.

Just time and money for you but this isn't my main hobby. Cars are and I have a JDM gc8 coming in that I plan on using for autocross which is going to require some more time and $$$ then PCs will need.
Don't know what a "true boy" is but anyways I really don't know what you're point exactly was
February 23, 2010 10:46 PM
Driver support eh, you don't say. Given 8800gts 512mb->9800gtx->9800gtx+ ->gts250
With that many chances even a child can fix it

Ohh how I wish nvidia have the same $/ratio.
Folding eh, gasp whats that. How come I never saw you on rip though my radar with all those goodness you got there
Yea man those GC8 are sik.
I wish I had a real one, but this one will do for me till I have more dough for something nicer
February 24, 2010 06:56 AM
@ fTgF - True, I will only support Fermi for Folding right now as I have more than enough gaming power in my Current GPU's.

However, for your Autocross Dreams (Solo 1 or Solo 2 BTW?) wait for Ford's Focus RS. Much better overall Platform. Or get an Audi :). Subaru is hyped, and yes they are good, but its more fun to take something not commonly seen and spank them on the track. Come out to Mosport this summer, I'll be there, waiting.

Solo 2 It will be my first year so take it easy
I like the JDM Subarus, Mitsubishis because they are dirt cheap and can be found with super low ks and it's easy to know if they are legit. For the price nothing can touch the performance. Maybe in autocross there are better cars but I can have an awd car that starts at 260hp can get up to 300hp with stock internals for almost nothing and has less then 50,000km? Can't touch that. Also the car I'm bringing in has 25,000km with all it's shaken. Never seen a winter, not one spec of rust and the paint is practically new. Haha anyways I get excited when I talk about this stuff.
So what kind of AutoX monster are you driving ST?
Bringing it back........ how about that GTX 480?.................

Excellent, have you done the Driver Development out that way yet? Good courses to teach a thing or two.
I've had a few now. I think my all time Favorite was an Audi 90 Quattro, but alas I did something stupid and toasted the engine. Best Car I had on the Track was an STI Killer, Escort ZX2 SR2 with a Cosworth 300 in it. POwer to weight ratio was amazing, combined with full Coil's it was a beast.
All of my toys got sold when I took ill last year to pay for expenses. But I'll be picking it up again.
Good to see more like me out there.
Anyways, what was that about a Video card????
February 24, 2010 12:40 PM
...........yaaa something about waiting for it.....................
Cool cars man. Sorry is the Cosworth 300 the engine out of the Ford Escort RS Cosworth? Not too clear on that. So what platform are you planning on building on this time around?
I haven't taken the Driver Development course. Didn't think they were offering them yet from the last time I checked, could be wrong. I've only taken advanced driving courses for taking it around the track.
.............still waiting damn nvidia, grumble, grumble.......................

Too rich for my blood. My car cost almost the same
February 24, 2010 04:58 PM
You guys are freaking awesome
@FTGF, Yea man so many nice JDM are left on the street in Japan its a shame! Most people in Japan don't value there cars as much as we do in NA, many of those people think there JDM cars are ball chains, and most of the time you can find such gems that can not be found anywhere in NA
That G8C is definitely a nice car, you show those Asian kids a thing or two drive there "parents" beamers
Really good point made by ST, skills > cars
As for myself I am just an amateur saving up for a decent car
@FTGF: I apologize if i offended you with that G8C pic
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways back on topic. nvidia
February 24, 2010 05:30 PM
Okay just to keep on topic. nVidia , yay, comming soon, maybe.
K, onto more important topics.
Cosworth 300 = Cosworth Custom Built (300HP). Engine cost more than the shell it was in, but that car had a very solid driving dynamic and with the proper suspension setup (Toe in 3rd Position in Rear, 3 Degrees Front) with some nice Kumo Rains up front it was a model car. AWD is nice, but unless you have good LSD's and are a good pilot you won't live up to the car. And if you can't afford Rain Tires, get Snow.
Never did it with Jim, I'll have to dig up some pictures of my Cone Killing someday.
@ Silver - I'm less than Ameture, espically since my teacher did so well at Tall Pines. I haven't 1/100000th of his skill.
WIth KFX comming to Canada, I'm thinking Accent Hatch for the next. Strip it out, and down, drop it 2 inches, and bolt all the hard points with braces on the bottom.
Anywho, yeah so off topicc.

February 24, 2010 05:31 PM
I'm not offended. You just made me jealous since mine isn't a Type R. They aren't legal in Canada for another two years. Oh well!

ST sounds like an insane engine. I know the GC8 is a hard car to master. That is one of it's appeals though it's a hardcore car. I'm not under any impression that I can even call myself an ok Driver. I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff. I just like cool cars. Really I'm just out there to have fun and do things I can't legally do on the street. If I finish last every time I won't cry.............too much. Also there is not many JDMs in my area at all especially Subarus so it's uniqueness is part of the appeal. I know in BC and AB they are a dime a dozen but not here.
so GTX 470 or 480..... can't decide...........

I've done some nice things to my cars...breaking bumpers....drives shafts (God Bless DSS) and the likes.
If you want something truely wild on the track, get a Japenese Pulsar. Wild Car.
I just like doing it with NA cars, because done right, they still prove their worth.
SO yeah..... GTX470 for me.
