The HD 7850 4GB IceQ Turbo 4GB features a massive amount of memory, higher clock speeds, leading edge overclocking capabilities and upgraded components.
Some may wonder about the reasoning behind a lower-end graphics card with a 4GB memory layout but according to HIS, their new HD 7850 IceQ Turbo should excel in upcoming titles which are likely to require additional bandwidth. In addition, this HD 7850’s core speed has been boosted to 1GHz, representing a significant increase over the reference version’s 860MHz setting.
Memory speeds have remained at the default 4.8GHz level which continues a recent tradition among NVIDIA and AMD board partners to leave the GDDR5 untouched on their custom designs.
HIS bills this card as overclocker-friendly and to achieve stability they have added a 2oz. copper PCB, upgraded onboard components and an expanded 5+3 phase PWM layout. Meanwhile, HIS’ iconic IceQ heatsink is along for the ride, this time boasting a blower-style design which exhausts hot air outside of the chassis. As usual the upgraded heatsink should result in lower temperatures and quieter operating acoustics.
In addition to the usual bullet points about their card’s overclocking prowess, HIS has also included their new iTurbo software which integrates clock speed controls alongside straightforward voltage modification abilities.
Pricing for the HD 7850 4GB IceQ Turbo 4GB hasn’t been announced yet but expect it to carry a significant premium over AMD’s reference design.
