During NVIDIA’s Montreal event, Tim Sweeney, Johan Andersson and John Carmack began talking about AMD’s Mantle. It was an interesting conversation.
AMD’s Mantle has caused some serious waves in the game development industry so it was only a matter of time until it came up once again. This time, we had three of the largest, most important figures discussing the positives and negatives of AMD’s approach during an NVIDIA event. For those wondering, Tim is from Epic (Unreal Engine), Johan is the current brains behind Battlefield and John is….well….John.
There was one common thread throughout: things like Mantle and G-Sync should never be exclusive but rather inclusive in order to push the PC gaming industry forward.
There was some pointed critique alongside praise. In the end, seeing these guys discussing Mantle is a lesson in itself.
