AMD is setting up to roll out its dual GPU flagship card – as had been tradition for many of its past generations – and the anticipated Radeon HD 6990 smiled for the camera briefly at an AMD press event in Asia yesterday.
The card, codenamed “Antilles”, is compromised of two 40nm Cayman GPU’s, likely to carry a mixture of specs from the HD 6950 and 6970, including a confirmed 3072 stream processors, and 4096 MB of memory. As shown in the photo’s, video output is limited to a single dual link DVI and four Display Port 1.2 connections. Power is provided by a 6 and 8-pin PCIe power connector and features a single Crossfire connector for CrossfireX capabilities.
The cooler makes use of AMD’s blower fan design, with a single fan centred over the PCB, and utilizes a vapor-chamber heatsink design.
Reports describe the card as being roughly 300mm in length, or just shy of a 1ft’.
