tdk logo TDK Plans Its Route to 3TB Drives and BeyondTDK has begun mapping the road to ever increasing amounts of Storage. Today we get a look at what the future may hold for the average HDD consumer.

With the highest single platter capacity fixed at 500GB it seemed almost a dead end for HDD to go. However TDK Corporation has reworked a lot when it comes to HDD mechanics which should allow for platter size to increase, up to 640GB per platter.

This technology would allow 3.5inch Drives to achieve capacities of 2.5 – 3TB of storage depending on how many platters are used.

For those of us not hot on the tail of SSD Technology , there is hope for even more storage coming soon. Although at the time of this posting it remains to be seen when this technology will actually start to hit Retail shelves, we can hope before the next year comes we will see them.
