Today Samsung unveiled the Spinpoint M8 1TB notebook hard drive, which they claim to be the largest notebook hard drive on the market.
The Spinpoint M8 uses two 500GB platters that have a 5400-RPM spindle speed. In addition the drive has a 8MB cache and a SATA interface that provides 3Gbit/second transfer. To reduce the noise profile of the drive, Samsung has embedded EcoSeek and Noise Guard into the unit.
Samsung says that this drive has a density of 636GB per square inch, and this is possible through their new advanced format technology.
CH Lee, VP of storage strategic marketing for Samsung said, “The new Spinpoint M8 line-up supports the ongoing growth curve for high density data storage densities, especially as it raises the bar to exceed terabyte density levels in the mobile computing space.”
