While it was rumoured that Intel would be prepping their G3 generation of SSDs for release in late Q4 2010 or early Q 2011, they appear to have no intention of abandoning their Postville (G2) lineup anytime soon.
A new 120GB model was spotted in an Intel press package, slotting itself in-between the existing 80GB and 160GB. The drive (Model #: SSDSA2MH120G2K5) features the same Intel controller, 34nm MLC NAND Flash, SATA 3.0 GB/s and has speeds of 250MB/s read, 70MB/s write. It does appear however, to currently only be available in retail packaging,or according to Intel, a “Pretty Box”.
The drive has already been listed by retailers for $260 CAD, which is sure to surprise given that its closest competition – 120GB SandForce based SSDs – typically command only around $225.
