Updated with more screenshots released on Wednesday by Rockstar.
Rockstar posted a trio of screenshots from GTA V early today, hinting at what gamers can expect from the upcoming title, but disappointing many with the lack of details as the screenshots are intentionally nondescript.
Released as a gallery entitled “Transport”, these screenshots — which look rather prerendered considering the console’s hardware and Rockstar’s engine (or it could be from the PC version) — depict some ways players will be getting around town in the game: bike, sports car, and fighter jet.
Rockstar says that more information on the game will be available later this week.
This past November, Rockstar released a trailer for the game depicting the California-esque environment it will take place in:
Given the fact that Rockstar always likes to use parts of its games as veiled commentary on the politics of urban America — see the GTA IV trailer’s use of Phillip Glass’ Pruit Igoe from Koyaanisqatsi as a commentary on The Death and Life of Great American Cities — this trailer was loaded with political barbs: rows of ‘McManions’ being sold as foreclosures, urban inequality with rampant homelessness and high-rise condo white flight, as well as the iconic Californian smog.
No release date has been provided, but the game is widely expected to be released in early 2013.
