This morning, many Blackberry users woke up without the ability to send or receive emails over their network. This is being caused my a massive outage at one of RIM’s main facilities.
According to representatives Hardware Canucks contacted at Telus, Bell and Rogers here in Canada, the outage is not only confined to Canada but could affect Blackberry users around the world. Service is expected to be restored before noon eastern standard time and was originally knocked out around 9AM EST. SMS, mobile internet, voicemail and incoming / outgoing calls are not affected. In addition, this outage is only confined to the RIM network and as such has no impact on smartphones outside the RIM network.
There are sure to be alot of people feeling pretty naked without mobile access to their emails.
Update 12:10pm EST: A representative from RIM has contacted us and indicates the service should be back up in under 5 minutes.
