What many users today do not realize is USB Video interface has been around for a few years now. However in the past the bandwidth offered by USB 2.0 was unable to rival that of the more popular HDMI outputs. DisplayLink hopes to change that.
With USB 3.0 a reality and the massive bandwidth it offers DisplayLink has the tools now to make USB Video streaming a true reality and possible contender in the computer market. Considering USB 2.0 only offered 480Mbps vs USB 3.0 4.8Gbps it looks very good for them indeed. Especially considering that now this technology will be able to outpace that of its former rival HDMI.
With a launch set for sometime in 2010 we should see the first of these make their way to the annual CES. And perhaps in the near future this new technology will become the next generation Video output.
