Gigabyte GA USB3.0 01 300x232 Gigabyte Launches PCI E USB 3.0 Add In CardGigabyte is taking steps to allow more “dated” PC’s to embrace the movement to USB3.0 with the introduction of its new PCI-E expansion card, the GA-USB3.0.

USB 3.0 still hasn’t widely caught on with a majority of motherboard manufacturer’s; most opting to only include a one or two connections on only their premiere lineup.

Gigabyte is offering this card as an separate item for anyone to purchase and install. It operates on a PCI-Ex1 expansion slot, offers two USB3.0 connections and requires power from a typical molex connection. In typical Gigabyte fashion the card is built on blue 2oz copper PCB and is based on an NEC USB 3.0 controller.

The device is currently available from many local or online retailers for a list price of $39.99 USD.

Good so now people will stop to worry if their board don't have it

Personally I am pretty sure USB 3 and Sata3 won't be that good until they are added to the chipset. Till this day it's just a Jmicron or realtek chip on a board. For sure we should start somewhere but there is a point thing are coming useless. Why don't we just take SATA 3 and make everything working on SATA 3 like Esata3 stick and kick all this firewire and USB thing out of the market, wont that be better a really universal port?

Looks good. I guess we'll have to wait for compatible USB3.0 HDD enclosures and such before we can really take advantage of these. Good to know I won't have to replace my motherboard to get one though!

The site lists the P7 series of Asus boards as 'compatible' models. Is that for it to work at all, or optimally?

Well products are sure to come fast now that older pc's have this to connect to them. I asked Gigabyte for a front panel connector for this card, to really make it easier to connect to, hopefully they will make revision.

PCIe x4 though. Will take up a x16 lane on most systems. I think I'd rather have the Gigabyte card.

I agree but the only card in my core2quad rig is a 5870, I'd probably still get a Gigabyte card for the other computer but I'd really like sata 6gb without upgrading. Can't wait to see some decent hard drive docks.
