AMD’s Chief Marketing Officer, Nigel Dessau, announced yesterday on Twitter that he is leaving the company and speculation is rampant that he has been fired by new CEO Rory P. Read as part of Mr. Read’s promise to restructure the company.

Mr. Dessau left Sun Microsystems in 2008, where he was senior vice president of Storage Marketing, to join AMD. Prior to his time at Sun Microsystems he was involved with IBM and Storage Tek.

In early November CEO Read laid off the majority of AMD’s marketing department as part of his promise to shareholders to restructure the company.

The announcement of Mr. Dessau’s departure comes days after AMD announced that previous marketing material describing the Bulldozer processer as having 2 billion transistors was an error, as the chip only has 1.2 billion.

Mr. Dessau has has declined Hardware Canucks’ request for comment.
