Google will release a refreshed version of the Nexus 7 tablet with a slimmer form factor on the one-year anniversary of the original tablet’s launch, according to sources that spoke with Reuters.
According to these sources, the refreshed Nexus 7 will have a higher resolution display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC instead of NVIDIA’s Tegra 3. Reportedly, Google went with Qualcomm’s SoC for the new Android because of “power reasons” but naturally declined to comment further.
The loss of the Nexus 7 is a considerable hit for NVIDIA, as the Nexus 7 was the flagship tablet for the SoC. Aside from the Nexus 7, the only tablet of note that is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 is Microsoft’s Surface.
Pricing was not revealed by the sources that spoke to Reuters, though Google will likely stick with the same price points as its current Nexus 7.
