19b2 300x215 MSI Set to Launch 790X G45 AM2+ MotherboardWhile many of us await the latest and greatest of computer technologies for the next big upgrade. Few take into consideration that the most common build is the one for those of on a budget. That is where the MSI 790X-G45 comes in.

For many, computer upgrades become a calculated matter, seeking the best possible performance without having to break the bank in doing so. While the highest end components tend to capture the spotlight in terms of reviews, the truth of the matter is – most of today’s market share is devoted to boards that fall in the mid-range category.

MSI seeks to capture some of this market with their latest AM2+ incarnation. Based upon the AMD 790 chipset, the G45 has all the options one could ask for. First on this list is a pair of PCI-e 2.0 graphics slots (8x / 8x electrical when both are used), this will allow even the budget user to opt for CrossFire and not have to worry about replacing their mainboard as well.  Connectivity is provided via a 710SB chip responsible for the six 3.0 gbps SATA ports, IDE connection and 8-channel Audio. Rounding out the design is support for both Gigabit Ethernet and six USB 2.0 Ports.

RAM support is limited to DDR2 Dual Channel with a maxium nominal clock speed of 1066 (1200 if you choose to Overclock).   The 790X-G45 will be able to field everything from AM2 up to the latest AM3 socket processors, giving the end user a myriad of choices when deciding on what works best for them, making the G45 a true jack-of-all-trades design.

Pricing and Availability have not yet been released.

I thought the 790X chipset had the 750 Southbridge?

Either way, nice to see MSI make a foray into the 790X field where it's mainly Asus and Gigabyte duking it out, although I'm a bit surprised this isn't socket AM3/DDR3 like their competitors' newer offerings. The lack of VRM passive cooling seems like it'd also deter some people.

On their Higher End boards they do, but this one uses the 710SB instead.
    Cost savings I am assuming.
