Intel updated their pricing list late Sunday in accordance with earlier rumours of pricing cuts to desktop CPUs slated for July 20th 2009. This change seems to be strategically planned, given AMD’s announcement of its quarterly results being expected later today (Tuesday July 21st 2009).
The cuts are aimed primarily at the 45nm Core 2 Quad line, with average drops hovering in the 10%-20% range. With rumours that Core i5 is to be released in early fall, the cutting of prices to clear out competition for the new lineup adds to the validity
The new pricing is as follows:
*all prices in USD
|CPU||Old Price||New Price|
|Core 2 Quad Q8300||$183||$163|
|Core 2 Quad Q8400||$183||$163|
|Core 2 Quad Q9300||$213||$183|
|Core 2 Quad Q9400||$213||$183|
|Core 2 Quad Q8400S||$245||$213|
|Core 2 Quad Q9400S||$277||$245|
|Core 2 Duo E7500||$133||$113|
|Pentium Dual-Core E6300||$84||$81|
|Pentium Dual-Core E5400||$84||$74|
|Pentium Dual-Core E5300||$74||$64|
Changes in the retail channels likely will not be seen for a little while, as old stock at old prices trickles out.
