Leading global manufacturer of computer components, XFX, most well know for their refrence nVidia graphics cards and motherboards, recently annouced their foray into the world of ATI video cards, bringing with it, some serious competition for the tradtional partners. Now XFX is rumoured to be diving into a whole new category – power supplys.
Reports from LegitReviews feature a full presentation detailing the potential for an upcoming, aggressive new 850W power supply from the company. While no images of the real deal have been leaked, 3D renders were included and it looks to be a beast. The rumoured XFX 850W Black Edition PSU will feature a single 12V+ rail, with an output of 70A/840W, with tight voltage regulation (+-3%) and be completely modular. It is also said to have up to 88% efficiency, which would net an 80Plus+ Silver Certificiation. A quiet 135MM for cooling, and quality solid Japanese caps to round it out, providing the high end quality we are used to from XFX.
While there was no mention about price, one could surmise that XFX would intend to price the unit competitvely with other high quality PSU offerings such as Corasir, Silverstone and Antec – giving it a rough MSRP of $175 CAD or $150 USD, but it could easily peak above the $200 mark if it proves to be as good as it sounds on paper.
