Silverstone is prepping for the launch of its Fortress FT02 computer chassis, expected to ship next week; just in time to make it onto retailers shelves and fill eager enthusiasts wish list’s.
The case takes some design cues from the recently revamped Silverstone Raven RV02, which is clearly evident when taking off the side panel. It is designed around the same rectangular frame, 212 (W) x 497 (H) x 616 (D) mm and weighs in at a modest 15kg. Unlike the Raven however, Silverstone has opted to go back to a quality Aluminum construction that has been an iconic of many of their high end cases. The case utilizes the 90-degree motherboard rotation in order to promote excellent airflow and its cooling benefits.
Looking at the interior, it feels nearly identical to the RV02, with the triple 180MM bottom fans, similar placement of cable routing options, 5 external drive bays but it also adds a foam padded interior for noise dampening.
The one major (and highly welcomed) improvement, is to the hard drive area. In a recent video review of the Raven RV02, Hardware Canucks posited that the inclusion of only thee hard drive bays, with no easy tool-less design would be the deal breaker for many consumers. With the Fortress FT02, Silverstone brough t back their rack style drive cages and upped the space to support 5 hard drives, solving the the most glaring issue with this particular design.
The case is available in both Silver and Black with an optional side window model.
The anticipated street price is approximately
Update: A few retailer sources provided by an unregistered guest at HWC have shown that the FT02 is in fact being listed at a few US retailers for pre order at roughly $250 USD, however the case can still not be found in Canada, and will likely be priced slightly higher.
