Inno3D is looking to combat the often complained about tempuratures of the new GTX 400 series cards by releasing a custom aftermarket cooling solution on its upcoming iChill GTX 470 Hawk video card.
As depicted in CAD design drawings, the new design features what appears to be two 80mm fans on the ends, with a 92mm fan in the middle. The fans are attached to an aluminum fin array and connected to the GPU chip via heatpipes. The down draft will also cool VRM and memory chips.
Inno3D has partnered with Arctic Cooling for aftermarket cooling solutions on previous iChill cards, so we can expect that the relationship will continue, especially given the mockup’s striking resemblance to the Arctic Cooling Accelero.
It will likely be an effective system for dropping the cards load temperatures to within a more normal range than its current < 90 ° C, and hopefully we can look forward to this cooler design being adapted for the GTX 480.
