7a 300x292 GELID Launches Tranquillo CPU CoolerGELID Solutions is a relative newcomer to the world of aftermarket cooling solutions. This however has not stopped them from producing both some of the best silent fans and thermal paste seen today. Their latest creation comes in the form of a tower cooler – the Tranquillo.

In the short time that GELID has been available in the market they have already made quite the name for themselves to both everyday users and enthusiasts. Known more commonly for their award winning GC2 thermal interface material (TIM for short) they have also helped create some of the best silent running CPU cooling solutions to date.

Tranquillo at a glance is your typical Tower cooler. Featuring four U-shaped copper heatpipes soldered to a solid and polished copper base, GELID has not changed the basic design that most cooling providers use today. The devil however is in the details. Not built for the sole purpose of pure performance, GELID has included a very specific and well designed fan to mate with this cooler.

Using a unique fan pitch and blade design the Tranquillo is optimised to blend both performance and silence seemlessly. The 120mm fan is controlled via PWM (Pulse wave modulation) and promises to provide more than adequate airflow over the heatsink. The aluminum fins are arrayed in such a way to provide both a large surface area and low resistance, which should help keep noise to a minimum. Tranquillo will have the ability to be mounted to every last generation and current processor to date. From AM2 and up on AMD’s side, and LGA775 all the way to the newest LGA1156 for Intel.

Available now, the Tranquillo is priced at $38 USD. For more information please visit the product page here.

I think it will be a good contender in the mid-range of coolers.
It is obviously not designed for contending with Highly OC'd Quads, but rather for silence and performance over stock and moderately clocked CPU's.
