The Canadian retailer announced the news in a March 2 tweet, which was met with a response of “Yay!” from RIM.
RIM has aggressively cut the price of the Playbook, lowering the 16GB model to $199. In comparison, Apple’s iPad retails for $519.
To many, however, comparing Playbook and iPad sales is an apple-to-orange affair considering the price point of the Playbook and the size of the iOS ecosystem.
In an unfortunate pairing of tweets on RIM’s twitter page, which may summarize the feeling of many, twitter user @ERICTR0N remarked, “I guess if you make anything cheap enough, people will buy it, no matter how shitty.”
