Citing sources within the notebook industry, Digitimes is reporting that Intel may delay mass shipments of Ivy Bridge processors.
According to Digitimes’ source, the delay is due to a number of first tier notebook players being unable to “digest”, or clear, their Sandy Bridge inventories because of the weak global economy. In order to not overload the supply chain with excess inventory, Intel will consider delaying Ivy Bridge’s release until after June.
Digitimes claims that a “small volume” of Ivy Bridge chips would ship in April.
Intel refused to comment on Digitimes’ claims, but on a January earning call Chief Financial Officer Stacy Smith said, “”We have a very fast ramp of Ivy Bridge, strong demand.”
In the same call Intel CEO, Paul Otellini, said that the launch of Ivy Bridge was slated for early spring.
