Finally moving out of beta, Microsoft will begin shipping select Office 2010 retail packages world wide; these include Office Home and Student 2010, Office Home and Business 2010 and Office Professional 2010. The wide variety of consumer available office packages have been slimmed down to these simple three after Office 2007 caused confusion with more than 8 available bundles. The listed USD MSRP for the retail software is $149, $279 and $499 respectively.
One of the more notable additions is the launch of a new Office 2010 Web App portal. This will now allow users to use limited versions of popular Office 2010 programs online and completely free. The online program access has much of the same basic functions as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
The new Office suite builds on the major redesign of the software that came with Office 2007, and adds plenty of new features to embrace the enormous change in technology over the past three years. Check out the Office 2010 website for a full list of changes.
Consumers who purchased Microsoft Office 2007 after March 5th, 2010 will be eligible to receive a free upgrade to the comparable verison of Office 2010 by following Microsoft’s instructions here.
