AMD has spent the day on the low-price offensive: in addition to introducing an aggressive set of price cuts, the chipmaker has introduced the AMD FX-4100 — a new entry level chip geared towards low end systems.
“The AMD FX-4130 processor, for enthusiasts who like their graphics (GPU) interchangeable and upgradeable, is a 4-core CPU that clocks slightly below a 4GHz operating frequency in a 125W thermal envelope,” wrote AMD’s Gary Silcott in an announcing blog post.
AMD said the suggested retail price for the chip is a highly competitive $112.
No word yet on how this chip will perform against similarly priced low end processors. Hardware Canucks will post benchmarks when they become available.
