The Chief Executive Officer of Acer says that the company is planning a massive shipment of ultrabooks in 2012 as the company has already experienced tremendous success with their first ultrabook model.
Acer CEO, J.T Wang, told Digitimes that “sales of Acer’s first ultrabook, the Aspire S3, totaled about 250,000-300,000 units in the first quarter after launch, and the company expects sales for its new Aspire S5 tablet PC will be even better.”
Acer is planning on launching second-generation ultrabook models in Q2 2012, and expects ultabooks to account for 25-35% of its total notebook shipments for the year.
Digitimes reports that Acer expects its notebook shipments to drop 10-15% in Q1 2012, though total shipments for the year will grow by 10%.
A recent industry estimate suggested that Acer may return to profitability in 2012.
