Intel today announced its latest entry into the world of PCIe SSDs: the Intel SSD 910 Series.
The Intel SSD 910 is offered in 400 GB and 800 GB capacities and is designed for post-deployment server storage upgrades. This SSD series uses Intel’s High Endurance Technology and a triple-layer stack of 25nm MLC NAND Flash memory.
The drives have sequential read speeds of 2GB/sec and write speeds of 1GB/sec. The SSD achieves random write performance, of up to 75,000 I/O operations per second (IOPS) and read performance of up to 180,000 IOPS.
While these drives do offer some impressive performance, they don’t come cheap:the 800GB SSD is priced at $3,859; the 400GB SSD is priced at $1,929.
These drives are expected to be on the market by June-July.
