That was what I was thinking. Your statement galvanised me to go hunt up my old Intel heatsink from a Q6600. It is definitly taller than my E8400 heatsink and the Q6600 heatsink has a copper base which the E8400 one does not.

ok so I'm not hallucinating.

It's more than a copper base. The copper actually forms a cone coming up from the base to the top of the heatsink.I was actually quite impressed. Not that i've ever used it tho.I run a thermalright xp-90c

-----

If thats just a shorter non-copper version ,then yea it's a pos.heheh

Yeah, you are right. When I bought it I only looked at this thing long enough to put it in the junk box. I have not decided on what heatsink I want for the E8400 but when I do I will post a side by each picture.

In defense of the POS heatsink it is working fine for me. My CPU is very cool under normal load. Sure, the enthusiast should replace it but it is fine for a pedestrian machine.

I have to replace mine because it generates some high frequency noise that most people probably can not hear but bugs the crap out of me.

I would say the fins are half as high, just kinda strange for a quad core.
It just doesn't look up to the task, anyways I thought it was funny.

Update:
OC to 3.4GHz and 1600 fsb. nothing to it. only raised DDR3 voltage to 1.7 volts. Max CPU temp 44C, so coolit TEC says.
still need to memtest it, since OCZ says 1600 at 1.9 volts, but hey I'm typing ain't I?

I started this whole thing with a desk design over the Xmas holidays in 2006, so to finally get to the end is really something, the workspace I always wanted.
A simple little CAD file and a plan and here we are.

You missed a lot; my camera was borrowed for a week, so you only get the final
shots.
As far as OC this thing, 3.4Ghz went ok till I tried to play a movie, then it crap out, SIMD instructions I guess.
3.2 seems okay though. Need a lot more fiddling with it I guess.
Anyways too tired to babble so here’s the pics; a little before and after cleanup.

Next Project; SPU, been working on it for the last two years.
An x86 instruction validation program for OC'ers, just need to get a readme done for the beta.
btw prime95 heats me to 45C, SPU to 54C, same on my PentiumD system +8C.
I need a disclaimer asap.

Peace.
