Yes in fact they do.

My first test run with an old mobo quit werking at -52 c.

------

I'll be using a new motherboard this time.One with polymer capacitors that won't suffer the same issue.The battery will also be made external.

The only other component on a mobo i may need to worry about , is the crystal ocillators....They may or may not be an issue....we shall see.....

k.....

quicky update....

I have started 'necking' the tank square ; Welders 'wrap' on ....

Marked : all I have to do is remove all of the material covered with black marker , and it'll be a flush , square top...

-------

I went to my welders supply co today , There is no issue with converting my old hydrogen regulator to run N2 , so that saves me a lotta cash......18 bux got me the needed tank attachment ;

----------

I may not be able to run the vacuum jacket 1" lines........Minimum order issues...(I don't need 200 feet of 1 and 1 1/4 inch soft copper...)

I am looking into a silicon rubber hose capable of -85 c using isopropanol....Parker Hannefin Polar extreme sw 6635.....but I may have the same issues.....we'll see which pans out.

------

I talked with the glass company today.

I'll be using laminated glass rather than the glass with the wire in it , for the exterior tank....

They are also helping me source the borosilicate glass (read : oldschool pyrex) that I need for the inner tank.

---------

Lastly , I've contacted a local pump specialist about the coolant pump.This one's a bitch........a pump to run -80c alcohol might cost me a grand.hopefully not.

.....

Nother quicky :

I just put the striker mobo under the microscope . I killed it.so it won't be that going in.

I will however be reverting to the 'reduce-striker-to-sand' plan...heheh

That plan sounds interesting. I'll be waiting - I'm a patient man. And I want to see a 680i board suffer.

Thx guys !

3.0charlie : I'm glad yer patient . the kill the 680i project is on the shelf fer a bit....as you can see I have a better project goin.soon tho.....sooon....

-------------

I got the backplate back from the welders'.

after grinder,file and sander ;

Virgin backplate baby !!! ready for new work.

Here's a shot of some staging work......got the top case rail in place....new backplate on.,.....That the striker in there (just for fitting purposes....)

--------------

I heard back from the hose guy today...if I wanna use actual rubber hose for the coolant line it'll cost me $700......so thats out haha...So I guess it'll be copper vacuum jacket lines after all......I can do those for less im sure.

heh.

----

I'm worried about the pump cost too. we'll see......

Ok !!

Update time.

I have my first corporate sponsor for the thinktank 2.0

I'd like to thank a good friend of mine , Rob (cls||Grinder) for sponsoring me. !

Just right computers out of Calgary has bought me a motherboard.So the parts list is closer.

Mobo: asus p5k SE
Ram : mushkin pc2 8000 xp2 extreme redline
PSU : corsair 520 HX
CPU : Intel e6600

video is yet to be determined......

------------

I have started serious canvassing to find the 1 inch and 1.25 inch copper tube.....

The pump is up in the air.

I may need to make it.

more soon....

woooo yea baby !!

Stuff to report.

- I am getting closer to sourcing the borosilicate glass....I already have the 6mm laminated glass on order.

-The parts list is growing ;

Thank you again to Sir cls||Grinder !! (and Just right PC for the Motherboard !)

I've reaped my Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon , and a 36 Gb WD Raptor HDD from this rig to donate for the tank ;

-------------

Also , my Intel q9450 processor is bought n paid for....2 week wait.This frees up this e6600 for the tank.

wewt !

---------------

Lastly , I'm taking a different tack on the vacuum piping...

I'm going to use copper for the inside lines and plastic for the vacuum shroud....won't look as nice , but it'll save a lot of cash.I should have a prototype this week/(end)......

Almost sounds like you are building a booster rocket for the Space Shuttles

Definitely one of the more ambitious projects that I have heard of recently, best of luck.

If/when you succeed, I'll be sure to make a news post about it
