Default H2O NO!

It begins.

My block has arrived, despite UPS's silly exceptions Kind of disappointed that the ramsinks weren't nickel(Plated) as well, but the PCB is black anyway, so all's good. You'll note the required fibre washers are now included.

What are the fiber washers for?
Must be a 4870X2 thing, don't have them with the EK 4870 FC block. Is it to stop shorting?

Please elaborate on those fiber washers, those (missing from my EK 280GTX package) may very well be the reason why I have a dead card.

That's 3 blocks in 1 month, and none of the packages had fiber washers in them.

2 EK FC 4870 blocks, no washers.
1 EK FC 280GTX block, no washers and a dead (RMA'ed) card.

I still don't know why it died. The only change was removing that stock cooler, and installing that EK block.

Apparently there are some shorting issues at certian screw holes.

Quote:
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When installing the water block please use NONE METAL washers with the shorter screws M3x6mm. This will make sure there will be no connections with the card.
This problem accured with some HD 4870 X2 cards: card does not work with EK cooler, with stock cooler everything ok. Using none metal washers will elimenate this problem. If you need washers please contact us and we will send them for free.

Awww damn John. Maybe BFG might not RMA that card now if that is the same case with your 280 GTX

Thanks Doc, but unfortunately with neither the 4870 nor with the 280GTX blocks did I have such note or washers.

If washers are needed, then the block probably killed the card since I re-installed the stock cooler, and the power lights were flashing instead of being constant, and the fan would barely spin.
