Yea looking forward to seeing it built up.

I've got 2 EK 4870 blocks but finding small plastic/fiber washers in Annapolis is a pain. According to an EK rep (see below) you dont need them for the 4870 but better to be safe given what happened to 3.0charlie as well.

Hi!

We slod mamy blocks and we did not get any such feedbacks.
If you look, stock cooler also soes not use none-metal washers.
We did have such with X2 blocks but the problem is not too big as the card
works when you use PVC or paper washers.

Best regards, Eddy

My parts have arrived, but for some reason 2 of my barbs arrived as reducing sockets.

I ordered:

22948 Ek Water Blocks G1/4 to 3/8IN High Flow Barb Chrome Fitting (Single Pack) (Part#: 3/8(64013))

But that part number now shows up as
NCIX.com - Buy Reducing Socket G1/4 to G3/8 Inner Thread - 3/8(64013) In Canada.

I've contacted NCIX, it doesn't seem as though I'm at fault.

I dont know, I just bought a 280gtx the other day and the dude at memory express hinted polked and nodded that it would be a REAAAAALY good idea to buy the extended warrenty on that card, which was strange because i've talked to that guy dozens of times before and he's never pushed the warrenty on me before, so i got it, went home and the card was DOA, all i did was take it out of the box, pop it into my system, the fan spooled up, bios post beep OK, and no video. tried it in my other computer, same thing, in another computer, same thing. Returned the card and got a different one. There might be an issue with these cards methinks.

Had to RMA the first, came back fully functional; second one is still folding along, since day 1. Keeping my fingers crossed...

The loop

res>pump>card>rad>res?

Some guides say it doesn't really matter what's where, given the location of the item's this seem's to make the most sense.

Locations:

Rad mounted on back
Pump bottom of HD cages
Res. in External 3.5 bay's or possibly in internal 3.5 bays depending on how much space I free up

The only thing that matter is to have the reservoir before the pump. Anything else is at your own choice. In a closed loop, things will get equalized in the end.

Apparently many of the issues with the EK FC block are caused by the lack of standoffs which cause warping of the card.

Be very careful tightening and only tighten enough to ensure contact.

Here's a post about standoffs
The Importances of Standoff's on FC blocks. - XtremeSystems Forums
