I dunno, it wasnt spectacular.... I think the setup you listed 3.0 would be much better, and have much more headroom to grow. Change that PA120 out for a MCR320 and save a lot of extra cash, and only use 3 fans....

I see this being a better choice for someone who doesnt want to mess around with building and installing and risking building they're own setup, but no its not for me.

MCP-655: 70$
Micro-res: 20$
PA120.2: 120$
Apogee GTZ: 70$
Tygon, 1/2" 10 feet: 40$
SFF21Fs, x4: 60$

Total: 705$. Add barbs, clamps, liquid, etc...

For a system that is better than the wc setup I just proposed, the 145$ diffference may well be justified.
Well said.......Indeed

I have been looking into many many options for my home setup I have slung a few WC systems through my old store but I am much more fussy about what is in my house...So I have been looking at this monster U2-UFO case to accompany this monster WC solution and Im looking at almost $1000 solution to get the results I want ....and I would be huge...really huge....so Along comes a great detailed review like this for a product that delivers what I want in a much smaller package and bang I think I have found my golden goose of glory. Now I am looking at throwing the Boreas 12tec Barebones into an X2000 hmmmm.....

also release more info on the Coolit 4870X2 cooler...come on give one to HWC

FYI, unit without the case seems to be $550 @ NCIX:

NCIX.com - Buy Coolit Systems Boreas 12 Tec Chiller W/MTEC Control Center Plumbed for Single CPU 1/4IN Barbs - BOR1C In Canada.

True story.. there was a little confusion when it first got sku'd up but its all sorted now. NCIX has the product reviewed, the product reviewed sans chassis and will likely soon have a 'barbones', unplumbed version for those who want to put a chiller on the return side of their existing loop.

cwestwell - I'll be sending our 4870X2 solution over to the Canucks asap.

Will the unplumbed version come with options for different barb sizes or will it still be based off 1/4"? If you keep the price to within reason, this will be an excellent option if people wnt to replace their rad.

The unplumbed version will ship with 1/4" barbs only. We are doing our best to show that whether using a radiator [PURE] or a chiller [Elite / Boreas] on a CPU or GPU (which you can decide for yourself when you get our 4870X2 and GTX 280 blocks :) that 1/4" provides sufficient thermal bandwidth.

For those of you who would consider replacing your radiator with a chiller... I'm sure you have lots of questions. What happens to the Boreas (and your loop) if you reduce to 1/4"?

Hmm.. sounds like a job for HWC.. what do you say?

Just to make sure I understand this I can buy the boreas barbones and hook it up to a swiftech pump and Appogee GTZ block or any existing WC setup tubing and all. Do I need any special coolant or will any of them do the trick.

You'd need tubing reducers most likely(or new fittings if you change entire loop to 1/4-inch), but otherwise it can replace rad, or go after rad in loop to further lower coolant temps. Standard coolants all apply.
