I know exactly how they work man.. I've installed hundreds of them.
#1 works better permanent air gap.
#2 is a terrible way to install those for more than one reason.
#3 needs a valve or pet cock.

Auto air and pressure release vents basically do the same job and the idea has been around longer than your early posting days lol. You are arguing with a plumber btw which means even if I'm wrong (which I'm not) I'm still right and you are always just wrong. And pay me or I close all the hidden valves until you do. :P I can't help but argue your nonsense Kapt... it's mind boggling annoying.
